About Cerian

I have always loved to draw or paint but my journey with art did not really begin until about 2011. This is when colour really became a central theme for me.  Having been through a long, dark period with my mental health, I turned to colour to alleviate the darkness … and it works.  Art can have an incredibly beneficial effect on mental health either as a visual escape or catharsis or a method for expression.  This is what I hope to facilitate through ‘Ceri An Artist’.

You will see I work in a few ways including abstract, whimsical and realism/disrupted realism with combinations of the three. Saturated colour underpins it all and I am inspired by wildflowers, animals and expressions. I have a strong interest in wildflowers of the British Isles and our human connections with them especially relating to cultural beliefs.

What’s The Point Of It All ?

Thanks to several years living abroad I have come to appreciate the importance of celebrating your own heritage. I was also made aware of how the weather, environment and wildlife can influence cultural beliefs and behaviours. This is what I seek to uncover with my art.

In a world where tech is getting more and more sophisticated, my aim is to add value with some genuine, human creativity and understanding of the effects art can have on the psyche. I do not use A.I. In the production of my art and you will find the images on this site are protected from A.I. mimicry.

I adore the tactile nature of physical media and although I also enjoy working digitally my heart is in the process of applying paint to canvas. From the expressive application of backgrounds to the tonal adjustments needed to make a subject appear real the craft is a continuous learning curve.
